I’m sure you follow someone on Instagram and have seen them promoting a new course and thought, “Hmm, maybe I should try that.” You go through and click the link and check out the landing page only to come to see that it’s pricey and you just can’t handle the investment right now. The problem with that picture is, how will you improve your skills if you can’t invest in yourself?
It’s hard and it stinks but the reality is, sometimes we have to take risks and invest in ourselves if we want to grow. Taking risks and getting out of your comfort zone is the birthplace of magic for many entrepreneurs like yourself.
I’m not saying you need to jump in head first and drop $5K on a big program, but hey, maybe you should. There are many factors that go into that decision from knowing your budget and if you can handle it to really knowing if the program or course is right for you and doing your research on it.
One thing is for certain, when it comes to improving your skills, they play a major part in growing your business. Here are two key ways improving on a skill, or learning a new one, can help your business to grow.
We all start somewhere in our business, and usually it’s with pretty low pricing for our services. The thing is, we also often take courses or watch a bunch of YouTube videos to help improve some of our skills and we keep the rates the same for months, maybe even years. As you learn new skills and you notice that things are becoming easier for you and you can get things done quicker, it may be time to increase your rates.
Remember that people invest in you for the service and time you provide them. You are taking something off of their plate that they don’t want to deal with. If you can do that skill quickly and efficiently, it’s because you have improved your skills in this area to be able to do just that. So it shouldn’t matter if you did it in 2 hours or 10 minutes, it’s your knowledge that got you there.
When you invest in yourself and learn a new skill you are making yourself more efficient. When you continue to learn it can make a positive impact on many areas in your business from efficiency to productivity.
When it comes to graphic design for instance, when my clients come to me and see how quickly I turn things around for them, they are surprised at how quickly I did it and usually follow with “that would have taken me forever to figure out!” Right there I can see the value in my work. I have helped not just myself but my client by providing work in a quick and efficient manner.
Always remember, that when you invest in yourself to improve your skills or learn some new ones, you are making a difference in your business. This should reflect in your pricing and the way you work with your clients.
