It’s a new year and you are determined to make this the year your business really shines! You have big goals and within those goals is showing up for your business on social media. However, you’re not quite sure where to start when it comes to creating your Instagram strategy and you’re a little intimidated if you’re being completely honest. How do people do this day in and day out?! I’m here to help. In this blog I’m going to share 6 things you should be doing right now to improve your social media presence in 2025. Let’s dive in!
First things first, when it comes to showing up on Instagram for your business, having a clear strategy in place will help you reach your goals and help you to stay on track. Here are 3 things you want to make sure are included in your Instagram strategy; your goals (I like to break them up by quarter to have a clear game plan), who your audience is that you are speaking to and their pain points, and 3-4 content pillars or main topics you will talk about throughout your content. I dive into this more in my content over on Instagram and this is also what I help my clients with so that if we are working together 1:1 or they just need a some guidance, we all have a solid foundation to start from when creating content.
Like I mentioned above, knowing your audience is a key part to creating content. When you can better understand their needs and why they are seeking you out, you can speak directly to them and in a way that helps them see you as the expert they should work with. Understanding why they need your help is crucial, without it, you’re just speaking to the void. But when you can nail down exactly why they are struggling and how you can help them and speak to that in your content, they will see themselves in your content and come to your for advice and guidance.
This is another key part of your Instagram strategy, knowing your goals. When you know exactly what you are needing you can have a better idea and vision for what you need to be doing to reach those goals. This is why I like to have my clients tell me all of the goals they have for their business, then we can map them out quarterly so they can see what needs to happen first in order to step into the next phase. It helps give us a clear roadmap from start to finish and helps us to prepare the right kind of content to help us reach those goals. And yes I say us because when anyone works with me they are not just hiring a social media manager, they are hiring a business partner, someone who wants to see them succeed just as much as they do in their business. And I will do everything I can to help them reach those goals.
This is a big one, before you start using your new strategy to create content let’s look at what we’re starting from. How does your current Instagram page stand? Are your followers your ideal clients or are they spammy bots and relatives? Does your bio clearly say what you do and how you help your ideal client? Can someone look at the first 3 posts on your page and understand what you do and how you can help them? These are critical points to look at when auditing your Instagram page. There are definitely a lot of other things that go into it, but making sure you have a solid foundation to start from starts with these 3 pieces.
If your followers a bit of a mix between family and friends, some ideal clients, and some bots, let’s clean those up. Take a little bit of time each day to remove, and unfollow if needed, followers who are not your ideal client. This can greatly affect your engagement rate and who you content is pushed out to by Instagram.
For your bio, make sure that someone new coming to your page can clearly understand what you do and who you work with. This includes your name field and your bio, which both are searchable so be sure to include keywords people might be using to try and find someone like you. For instance, if you’re a website designer but you only work with Showit, make sure that you have “Showit website designer” in your name field and bio.
Same idea goes for your content, it’s always good to have a mixture of value and promotional content, but you want to make sure that people understand what you do and how you can help them. Going back to the Showit website designer example from before, if I were them I’d make sure that I’m regularly sharing past work I’ve done and giving value on why websites are needed for the specific industries I work with and the value it holds for them.
The best thing you can do for yourself to make sure that you are regularly showing up for your business on Instagram is making a schedule that works for you. This can include when you’re going to create content, when you want to show up on stories, anything and everything that has to do with your content creation and showing up on Instagram. If you don’t want to have to worry about creating content constantly, schedule a day every month or every 2 weeks to create and schedule content. This will make your life so much easier and help you to stay consistent in front of your audience.
BONUS TIP: Be sure to also make time for engagement to bring people into your space and engage with those that follow you.
Templates are your best friend when it comes to showing up consistently for your business. If you ever look at my page, I have about 4-5 designs that rotate through regularly to make my life easier, and will occasionally toss in something new. The same goes for my clients, as part of their onboarding when I create their custom Instagram strategy, they also get a bundle of custom templates for either them or I to use when creating their content and it makes creating content 10x easier and faster. I always recommend creating at least 3-5 post templates, 3-5 story backgrounds, and 3-5 reel cover templates this way you can rotate through them all and have something fresh and on brand to help build consistency and brand awareness.
When all is said and done, it really comes down to doing what works for you. While these are tips I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to make social media a priority for their business in the new year, take what you can and do what works for you. Start small and work your way up.
